Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were impressed with what they saw from Louis van Gaal following his first press conference as manager last week.
The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford having just guided the Netherlands to third place at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil and was clearly confident he is the right man to bring success back to 20-time English champions.
The 62-year-old refused to give much away when discussing potential transfer targets, saying he would asses the players he already has at his disposal before making any decisions.
He also revealed that Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw – brought in for a combined total of £60 million – were players he liked and had given his approval for.
Another player said to be on the Dutchman’s list is Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.
The Chilean is another who has been a long-term target for the club, but reports today say the Serie A giants are not willing to part with the 27-year-old this summer under any circumstances.
With that in mind, we have identified five possible alternatives for United to look at, should their pursuit of Vidal end in failure.
