Arsenal fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern are all in agreement that a striker has to be number one priority for Arsene Wenger as soon as the transfer window re-opens.
Olivier Giroud has enjoyed a decent season, with 21 goals in all competitions so far.
However, the Frenchman has struggled in the big matches, and the lack of squad depth has seen his performance level drop due to fatigue at times.
Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo have offered little, whilst Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski have endured injury ravaged seasons.
Arsene Wenger has been keen to point out this week that the injuries the club have suffered are the reason behind their failed title challenge, but Gunners fans will point to the fact the club had a whole summer and whole January transfer window to add reinforcements – yet failed.
Luis Suarez, Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic and Wayne Rooney were amongst the names linked last summer, whilst Julian Draxler and Alvaro Morata were targeted in January.
Widespread reports now suggest that Real Madrid star Karim Benzema is the new number one target.
But with the Gunners recent history of missing out on top targets, it would be foolish for Wenger to head into the summer with a list of at least five alternatives.
