Brendan Rodgers takes Liverpool to Crystal Palace tomorrow, the venue at which their title challenge collapsed in the most heartbreaking fashion last season.
After Luis Suarez had put the Reds 0-3 up on 55 minutes, Rodgers men set about trying to cut down the sizeable deficit to Manchester City’s goal difference, only to see their defensive frailties exposed in a final 11 minutes of madness.
The game ended 3-3, and the Reds had effectively handed the title to Manchester City.
Luis Suarez – who ended the match on his knees in tears that night – has since departed for Barcelona, Daniel Sturridge has not played since August 31 and will not do so again until the new year having suffered a third consecutive injury.
And most importantly, the Reds sit 11th in the Premier League, 15 points behind leaders Chelsea, and looking a pale imitation of the side that thrilled so many of us last season.
All of this has seen Brendan Rodgers come under pressure, with rumours suggesting Liverpool’s owners are ‘assessing’ the northern Irishman’s future at the club.
A defeat at Palace tomorrow – a ground the Reds have not won at in their past four visits – would make it four consecutive defeats in all competitions, and heap further pressure on the Liverpool boss.
With the bookmakers already giving odds on who could replace the under fire boss, we have identified five possible candidates were the pressure on Rodgers to become too much in the coming weeks of what is fast becoming a nightmare season for the Reds.
