Petr Cech may be spending a fair bit of time on the bench – and Twitter – of late but he is still a firm favourite for our punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern and we cannot wait to see him back between the sticks.
Luckily for our regulars, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that he would consider playing Cech not just in domestic cup games but also in the Premier League and even the Champions League.
Our landlord points out that Real Madrid adopted a two goalkeeper system last season with Diego Lopez and Iker Casillas and if anyone deserves to get some playing time, we certainly think long serving Blues stopper Cech is that man!
Not only that, but as our regulars point out, it is all well and good telling Cech to fight for his place with Thibaut Courtois but unless he actually gets the chance to do so in a highly charged competitive match and not just in training, he could well be off in January – and that is not something we want to see.
With that in mind, here are five dates we think Cech needs to get penned down in his diary and prepare to leave the bench for!
