News reached the Football Transfer Tavern this week that Kevin De Bruyne is set to leave Stamford Bridge this month, after Chelsea reached an agreement over a fee with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
The Belgian has long been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge for some time, after failing to hold down a regular first team place under Jose Mourinho.
The club are set to make an £11 million profit on the 22-year-old – something that considering they paid only paid a small fee to Genk two seasons ago for the player – is a superb piece of business.
Mourinho’s side seem to be clicking into gear at exactly the right time.
Three wins out of four over the Christmas period was followed up with a convincing 2-0 win at Hull City yesterday, a ground where Liverpool have previously come unstuck, and where Manchester United were forced to come back from two goals down.
The feeling is if Mourinho can add the right additions in January, Chelsea are the team best placed to challenge title favourites Manchester City right to the wire.
But to do that, Mourinho may have to move some players out the door – some perhaps more controversially than others.
Here we have identified five players we feel are most likely to follow Kevin De Bruyne out of Stamford Bridge this January.
