Chelsea were dealt a transfer blow this week, when Inter Milan revealed they would not be selling the Blues top target Fredy Guarin.
Widespread reports suggested Chelsea were looking to secure the signature of the Colombian midfielder and had even gone as far as to hold meetings with Inter officials over a possible transfer.
Reports suggested the Blues were on course to complete a £15 million deal for the 27-year-old, but this week Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio revealed the midfielder would be going nowhere.
Ausilio said: “Guarin is an Inter player and we are happy to keep him.
“Denying the contacts with Chelsea would be denying the evidence. It is a source of pride to talk with them about one of our players, but everything stopped there.
“We are happy Guarin could stay with us for a long time. We don’t have the intention to sell him. He’s an important player.”
The news will come as a blow to Jose Mourinho, who has made no secret of his desire to add midfield reinforcements since returning to the club in the summer.
The Blues have been linked with a host of names from top teams across Europe, so here at the Football Transfer Tavern we have compiled a list of five transfer alternatives to Guarin for Mourinho to consider.
