The Uruguayan has dominated the headlines during the close season, and taken the shine of what in fact has been something of a productive transfer window for Brendan Rodgers and his team.
Business was done early this time around, with Kolo Toure, Simon Mignolet, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas all signing before the club’s first pre season friendly.
Rodgers has also managed to recoup all the money has spent, by offloading the likes of Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing to West Ham and Jay Spearing and Jonjo Shelvey to the set of the new Hobbit movie and the Warner Brothers’ Harry Potter studio respectively.
The Liverpool manager has made no secret of the fact he has money to spend, and has openly spoken of his desire to add more quality to his first eleven.
That has got the fans and the press talking, and plenty of names have been linked with a late summer swoop to Anfield.
However the Reds have discovered the lack of European football has proved a problem in attracting top players this summer, and means some of the rumours we have witnessed so far can be described as farfetched to say the least.
