Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are eagerly awaiting the new season, with Jose Mourinho having been perhaps the busiest of all Premier League managers in the transfer window thus far.
The Blues have added two world class talents to their ranks, in the form of Cesc Fabregas – and finally Diego Costa, whose transfer from Atletico Madrid was confirmed this week.
The Spanish international has arrived at Stamford Bridge for a fee of £32 million, and looks to have finally asked Jose Mourinho’s prayers of landing a world class centre forward.
Whilst Costa endured a disappointing World Cup with Spain, he was the form striker in Europe last season, inspiring Atletico Madrid to a shock La Liga title and Champions League final appearance, scoring 35 goals in all competitions.
Chelsea fans are hoping he can reproduce similar form at Stamford Bridge, after a season without silverware during 2013/14.
Blues supporters no better than to pin all their hopes on the 25-year-old however, given their recent history when it comes to strikers.
Fernando Torres remains the prime example, with the Spaniard failing to reach anywhere near the heights he reached at Liverpool following his £50 million transfer in January 2011.
And it doesn’t end there..
Here we have identified five former Chelsea strikers Costa would do well to avoid studying for inspiration upon his arrival in west London.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
