Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are not sure how to feel today.
On one hand, Kopites have the signing of England international Adam Lallana to celebrate, whilst on the other they are having to contend with the news that Barcelona have opened discussions with the Reds over the transfer of Luis Suarez.
Suarez was the star of the Premier League last season, scoring 31 goals as the Reds almost ended their 24-year wait for a league title.
But the Uruguayan was forced to leave the World Cup in shame, following the third bite on a fellow professional in his career – and a four month ban from all football related activities.
That makes the signing of Lallana even more important for Brendan Rodgers.
The 26-year-old was one of the stars of last season, earning himself a place in the PFA team of the year for his performances for Southampton.
Lallana will fit in perfectly to the system Rodgers has implemented at Anfield, capable of playing on either flank, in the middle of the park or in the number 10 role.
A £25 milion price tag will put added pressure on him however, and no doubt he will be expected to hit the ground running.
As Lallana looks to embark on a new chapter of his career, we have identified five former Liverpool midfielders he would do well to avoid looking towards for inspiration!
