Arsenal fans are feeling a little dejected in the Football Transfer Tavern following what can only be described as a disappointing deadline day.
Arsene Wenger was supposed to be in the market for a new centre back, a new holding midfielder and another top class striker to fill the void left by Olivier Giroud.
But Danny Welbeck – a man who has struggled for goals in the Premier League to put it nicely – was the only deadline day arrival, whilst previous target Radamel Falcao ended up at Manchester United and Chelsea completed the signing of Loic Remy.
Arsenal fans had a taste of success last season with the FA Cup triumph at Wembley to end their nine-year trophy drought but this time round, they want to go after one of the big prizes.
Wenger had promised to splash the cash in the summer and whilst the signings of Calum Chambers, Matheiu Debuchy and Alexis Sanchez kept the Gunners fans happy for a while, the deadline day capture of Welbeck has left them feeling a little underwhelmed.
All is not lost yet however. Given Wenger’s apparent phobia of spending on transfer fees, the Gunners boss may find himself drawn to some of the ‘free agents’ that are able to move beyond the deadline.
Here we have identified five possible candidates for the Arsenal boss to have a look at.
