Injuries have been a recurring theme for Arsenal supporters in recent years.
Many believe a run towards a first Premier League title since 2004 was halted last season by injuries at one time or another to Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny, Theo Walcott and so on.
And this season has proved barely a fortnight old before another long-term injury has struck Arsene Wenger’s squad, with Olivier Giroud ruled out for between three and four months after suffering a broken tibia in the 2-2 draw with Everton.
The silver lining – if any – is that there are still four days of the transfer window remaining and time for Wenger to sign a replacement forward despite his claim that this is unlikely.
Arsenal shocked everyone on deadline day a year ago with the £42.5 million capture of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. Whilst a deal of that magnitude remains unlikely, Gunners supporters will be hoping their front line is strengthened following Giroud’s unfortunate injury – someone who is not Nikola Zigic!
The former Birmingham City striker has been the shock name linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent days with the 6 ft 8 in Serbian forward being a free agent – which hardly comes as a surprise.
