Arsenal fans remain glued to the big screen in the Football Transfer Tavern, hoping the yellow bar on Sky Sports News will pop up any second revealing Arsene Wenger has completed the signing of a big name striker.
Stories linking the Gunners with moves for various strikers have been continuous since the close of the summer transfer window.
Arsene Wenger saved himself arguably on deadline day, after a summer of huge frustration for Gunners fans.
The deadline day capture of Mesut Ozil for £42.5million went a long way to appeasing the fans who had spent the summer waiting for the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney or Luis Suarez to walk through the Emirates doors.
And the results since have also certainly helped.
The Gunners have begun 2014 at the top of the Premier League table, and there is a real feeling around the Emirates that this year could see their eight year trophy drought end with one of the biggest prizes of the lot.
If that dream is to become a reality however, the general feeling is that Wenger needs to enter the transfer market once again.
A striker appears to remain the priority, despite some superb performances from Olivier Giroud during the first half of the season.
Wenger has remained calm and calculated so far, refusing to get drawn into the speculation linking the Gunners with a host of players they simply don’t need.
The Arsenal boss will only splash the cash if he feels it is the right type of player, rather than spending for the sake of it – something he would be doing if he moved for any of these five players that we think Arsenal should avoid signing at all costs.
