5 January signings that Chelsea should avoid at all costs

Luke ShawEveryone wants to hear what Chelsea fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern have to say the second the transfer window opens.

Jose Mourinho is set to be busy once again – he always is – spending Roman Abramovich’s millions, just at the time things look to have clicked into gear for the Blues.

Mourinho oversaw arguably Chelsea’s best Christmas period for some time as Chelsea picked up 10 points from a possible 12 over the festive period.

Wins over Swansea City and Southampton were fairly routine, whilst Mourinho claimed what could prove to be a crucial point with a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium and a vital 2-1 win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

The performances against Liverpool and Southampton in particular seem to have got Chelsea fans excited, with Eden Hazard and Oscar looking two of the division’s form players.

A problem remains regarding a lack of goals from the strikers, despite Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres both finding the net in the last two games.

Mourinho has already stated he thinks a couple of top signings will give him a squad capable of matching any in Europe, but the Special One needs to avoid some of the names being mentioned in the press.

Here we have identified five January signings we think Chelsea should look to avoid at all costs.
