5 January signings to boost Tottenham’s options at left back

Domenico Criscito Tottenham Hotspur fans have just been dealt the first reality check of the season after their emphatic shock home loss to West Ham United.

The hardcore Spurs fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern till think that this is the best side they have seen in years, and that Andre Villas-Boas is certainly on board for the long-term.

Whilst normally all we seem to talk about is the fight for the top four, now it seems that the North London side really have a chance at the title.

Their fans are fully confident that despite losing their star man Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, the team can go the distance this time round.

Daniel Levy is a master when it comes to the transfer window and January will be no different. Andre Villas-Boas has a firm idea of what he wants, and the club have a little bit of cash left over to get it.

Add to that the departures of a couple of fringe players to make room, and it could well be an interesting January.

Most people immediately point to the fact that Spurs need another forward, and whilst we are in full agreement here in the tavern, our landlord points out that they also need a left back – and badly.

Danny Rose is doing well but is still young and cannot play every game with injuries and suspensions undoubtedly set to rear their ugly head at some point or other.

With that in mind, here are five options to boost Tottenham’s options at left back this winter.
