Our punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern have a wry smile on their faces when we ask just who Tottenham Hotspur should avoid buying this January.
The reason for that? We all know just how shrewd Daniel Levy is when it comes to buying and selling players, and we cannot see him making many mistakes.
The club do have a fair bit of money to spend and despite buying what seemed to be a new starting eleven in the summer just gone, they are still in need of couple of players to really make them into a top, top side.
Not only that, but as the season goes on, back up options are needed. They cannot continue to fight for multiple trophies with one top forward alone, and need to invest in another striker. They also need a left back elsewhere.
What they do not need are more wingers or attacking midfielders – they already struggle to accommodate the players they have in those positions.
With that in mind, we have taken a look at the five players Spurs and Andre Villas Boas should avoid at all costs this winter.
