5 January targets that aren’t good enough for Arsenal

Alexandre PatoArsenal fans are buzzing inside the Football Transfer Tavern ahead of a massive week for the club.

Saturday’s fantastic performance against Liverpool has got Arsenal fans in confident mood once again, after back to back home defeats against Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea that had led to many questioning whether the wheels had started to come off.

Wenger’s men passed their first major Premier League test with flying colours, dominating for large periods against the Reds, and coming away with a fully deserved 2-0 win.

The Gunners now sit top of the Premier League pile by five points, and a win against the reigning champions at Manchester United on Sunday would see them rightfully confirmed as genuine title contenders, if they are not so already.

But there are still plenty who think the Gunners are still a couple of players short of challenging for the top honours this season, and a closer look at the Arsenal squad would suggest they are right.

The Capital One Cup defeat against Chelsea was a prime example, as the Gunners’ fringe players were well and truly outplayed by those from Stamford Bridge.

Wenger knows he will need to call on his entire squad if he is to achieve what he wants at the Emirates Stadium this season, and there is no doubting he will want to strengthen further in January.

But if we are to consider Arsenal as genuine challengers, then it is time to be cut-throat about which players they sign. Here, we have listed five January transfer targets that despite the speculation, we still believe to be not good enough for Arsenal.
