The feeling inside the Football Transfer Tavern is that Saturday proved something of a wake up call for Liverpool.
Their clash with Arsenal was billed as the battle of the top two in the Premier League, but in truth there was only one team who looked worthy of being at the Premier League summit.
Brendan Rodgers was calm as ever in his post match interview, being honest enough to admit that the best team won, and that his Liverpool side would pick themselves up and look to go again next week.
But the performance on Saturday did reveal that Liverpool are still a long way from challenging for the top honours.
The lack of strength in depth was evident, as both first choice wing backs Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique missed the game through illness and injury respectively.
The replacements of Jon Flanagan and Aly Cissokho looked out of their depth, and the wide areas proved to be where Liverpool struggled most.
The 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Gunners will simply reaffirm Rodgers desire to bring in extra bodies in January, and continue in his attempts to build a squad capable of challenging at the top end of the table.
But with it getting to that time of year where seemingly every player across Europe is being linked, we have identified five who we think are simply not good enough to make an impact as Liverpool challenge for the top four.
