A difficult week for Arsenal fans got even worse last night, as Swansea City registered a last minute equaliser to all but end the Gunners’ title challenge.
Arsene Wenger’s men now face a fight for fourth, with Everton now trailing by just six points with a game in hand.
It means that Saturday’s game against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium takes on added significance, whilst the trip to take on Roberto Martinez’s side at Goodison Park the following week could prove to be a showdown for fourth.
It is hardly the scenario Arsenal fans had hoped for, after a start to the season that saw them sit top of the table for long periods.
Long-term injuries to Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere have not helped, but Arsene Wenger’s failure to add reinforcements in the January transfer window will surely be looked at during the season’s post-mortem.
To make matters worse, Arsenal fans had to sit and listen to their team being ripped apart by former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes, who claimed the Gunners are ‘a million miles away’ from the Premier League title.
