Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are still confused as to what exactly happened on Saturday afternoon.
Despite Chelsea’s poor record at Newcastle United in recent seasons, nobody expected to see Jose Mourinho’s side lose any time soon with so many tipping the Blues to emulate the Arsenal side of 2003/04 and go an entire Premier League season unbeaten.
But Saturday’s 2-1 loss at St. James’ Park, followed by Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Everton at the Etihad Stadium appears to have blown the title race back open.
Whilst most had tipped Chelsea to run away with it this season, a three point gap between themselves and last season’s champions is nothing and nobody will be more aware of that than Jose Mourinho himself.
With the January transfer window less than a month away now, Mourinho will have identified any weaknesses he sees in his current squad.
The Portuguese tactician will be looking to rectify those in the hope of making the 2014/15 campaign one to remember with the Premier League and Champions League titles still realistic targets.
