Brendan Rodgers goes into this weekend’s home clash with West Bromwich Albion under a bit of pressure.
The Northern Irishman has overseen a disappointing start to the 2014/15 season with Liverpool sitting in 14th place in the Premier League having suffered three defeats already.
And this week has not seen much of an improvement with a disappointing home draw in the Merseyside derby against Everton followed by a woeful performance in the Champions League which saw FC Basel win 1-0 in Group B.
The problem for Rodgers as ever appears to be the defence with Liverpool having conceded 13 goals in nine matches already this season, with goalkeeper Simon Mignolet coming in for a fair amount of criticism.
The Belgian goalkeeper has hardly inspired confidence since his £9 million move from Sunderland at the start of last season, having conceded 50 Premier League goals as the Reds missed out on the Premier League title by two points last season.
Rodgers is understood to be considering a move for a new goalkeeper with former Barcelona star and free agent Victor Valdes said to be on the verge of a move to Anfield.
But as we have come to learn in recent times, transfer business is never straightforward with Liverpool. With that in mind, we have identified five alternative signings should the Valdes deal fall through.
