The conversation has turned to Liverpool’s young talent inside the Football Transfer Tavern, following Brendan Rodgers somewhat surprising decision to start young right back Jon Flanagan in last weekend’s crunch match against Arsenal.
The decision has been met with criticism in some quarters as both Liverpool’s wing backs struggled in the first half, forcing Rodgers into a half time switch of formation and personnel.
Whilst it wasn’t the best day for Flanagan, his inclusion was another example of Rodgers’ willingness to give young players a first team chance – something that has been a feature of his tenure at Anfield so far.
During the first half of last season especially it was necessary, with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Andre Wisdom, and Suso getting regular minutes.
But with Liverpool’s squad in a much stronger position than it was this time a year ago, we may well see Rodgers choose to loan out some of his young talent in January.
Rodgers has proven in the past he is willing to give young players a chance to shine, but regular first team football is what they desire at present.
Here we have identified five Liverpool players who are desperate for a loan spell this January.
