Liverpool supporters inside the Football Transfer Tavern could not be much happier at the moment.
With their side sitting second in the Premier League table – only on goals scored to Arsenal – the Reds supporters have been toasting a fair few pints during the international break.
And a lot of the success has been attributed to Brendan Rodgers, and the business he has conducted in the transfer market.
The Reds boss made two inspired signings last January, in the form of Philippe Coutinho, and Daniel Sturridge, with the England forward hitting six league goals already this season – three of which have proved decisive winners.
Rodgers has added the likes of Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho in the summer, all of whom are quickly making a name for themselves at Anfield, but perhaps most important has been the fact the Liverpool boss remained firm on his stance regarding Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan is back playing again, and looks as though he has never been away.
Rodgers deserves tremendous credit for the way in which he handled the summers’ longest running transfer saga, and now Liverpool are reaping the rewards.
But it has not always been the case that the Reds have managed to earn praise for hanging on to players – with a fair bit of talent slipping under the radar in recent times.
Either players who would go on to enjoy great success elsewhere, or those who had potential but were never given a fair crack of the whip have been allowed to leave Anfield without any of the fight reserved for the Suarez saga in the summer.
Here, we countdown five Liverpool stars who got away.
