Aside from the fact Luis Suarez has dominated the headlines this transfer window, Liverpool have in fact been very productive.
Reports today suggest the Uruguayan will be staying at Anfield due to (ahem) the clubs supporters.
Whether this is true remains to be seen, but if so then the Reds can head into the new season with real optimism. Rodgers has made some shrewd purchases, with four players arriving at Anfield so far for a combined total of £22 million – a figure the Reds boss has recouped already with the sales of Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing, Jonjo Shelvey and Jay Spearing.
Ahead of his second season at Anfield, there appears to be a renewed steeliness about Rodgers. He has handled the Suarez affair well to his credit, and his hard approach looks to have paid off.
He has also shown he is ruthless when it comes to disposing of deadwood, with Jonjo Shelvey and Downing considering themselves perhaps a tad unfortunate to be shown the exit door after some promising performances last season.
With Rodgers’ new ruthless nature in mind, we have identified five players that find themselves in the last chance saloon at Anfield this season, and need some big performances if they are to avoid a similar fate in the next transfer window.
