Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are pretty happy at the moment, following yesterday’s news that the club are on the verge of completing the signing of Southampton captain Adam Lallana.
The England international has been a top target for Brendan Rodgers since the close of the season, and reports suggest a deal will be completed after the weekend, with the 26-year-old having completed a medical at Anfield ahead of a £25 million move.
Lallana is set to join former Southampton team-mate Rickie Lambert, and German starlet Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen as the club’s latest summer addition, in what is shaping up to be a busy transfer window at Anfield.
With close to £40 million having already been spent, the Reds may well need to shift some of the deadwood around Anfield.
It may be harsh to put Italian forward Fabio Borini in that category, with the 23-year-old enjoying a successful season on loan at Sunderland during 2013/14 campaign.
Borini scored 10 goals and played a crucial part in helping Sunderland mount one of the Premier League’s greatest escapes, and now it appears the Black Cats are ready to test Liverpool’s resolve with a £10 million offer.
Reports suggest the Reds are holding out for £12.5 million, but with Brendan Rodgers also eyeing moves for Belgian forward Divock Origi and Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri, it is looking increasingly unlikely that Borini will start next season at Anfield.
But who else will be following him out the Anfield exit doors this summer?
