Liverpool fans continue to get the drinks in at the Football Transfer Tavern, after a weekend that could hardly have gone much better.
Saturday’s 5-1 victory over Arsenal at Anfield saw Brendan Rodgers side produce another display worthy of winning performance of the season.
Four goals inside the opening 20 minutes gave Arsene Wenger’s league leaders no way back, and further cemented Liverpool’s position in the top four.
With Everton and Manchester United both dropping points the next day, it’s been another fantastic weekend for the Reds in what is fast becoming a memorable season.
Saturday’s result has also taken supporters minds off of what was frankly another calamitous transfer window. The Reds tried and failed to bring in attacking reinforcements, missing out on Mohamed Salah and Yevhen Konoplyanka.
However, the attacking display against Arsenal on Saturday further emphasized the point that Liverpool perhaps shouldn’t be looking towards improving their attack – especially not for a fee as excessive as £16million.
Rodgers should prioritize a new left back to cover for the injured Jose Enrique, with Aly Cissokho only on loan until the end of the season.
A new holding midfielder wouldn’t go amiss either, with Lucas Leiva’s injury problems becoming far too frequent.
Greater squad depth is something the Reds need in order to challenge at the top end of the table from now on, rather than perhaps Konoplyanka, who you would expect to start each week.
The likes of Sterling, Coutinho and Henderson certainly do not deserve to lose their first team places at present. With that in mind, we take a look at 5 summer Liverpool ‘transfer alternatives’ to Yevhen Konoplyanka.
