The 2013/14 season is one that United fans would love to erase permanently from their memory – and supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern all agree the best way to do that is to look forward.
The arrival of Louis van Gaal seems to have got every Manchester United fan doing just that – all of them seem entirely convinced there will never be another seventh-placed finish as long as they all shall live.
The Dutchman has impressed with his tactical nous at the World Cup, guiding the Dutch to the semi-finals.
Whilst he has been busy carrying the hopes of a nation on his shoulders, Ed Woodward has been given the task of bringing in top class new additions – something he so spectacularly failed at last summer.
But in fairness to Woodward, he has done a decent job so far, with Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw both arriving at Old Trafford.
And according to reports, Angel Di Maria could be next, with the Argentine said to have agreed a £150,000 a week contract with the 20 time English champions.
All that remains is to agree a fee with Real Madrid, but United will be wary of Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in the World Cup star – and they will not be messing around when it comes to paying the asking price.
With that in mind, we have identified five transfer alternatives, should PSG nab Di Maria from under United’s nose.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
