The turnaround for David Moyes and Manchester United is almost complete.
The home defeat to West Bromwich Albion on September 28, had plenty talking of a crisis at Old Trafford. Moyes had lost half of his first six games in the United hotseat, and the performances had hardly been inspiring.
But yesterday, Robin van Persie’s header gave United a crucial 1-0 win over Arsenal, and Moyes his biggest win as United boss.
The champions are now just five points off the top of the table, and Moyes reckons the title race will go right to the wire.
“I don’t think anyone’s going to run away with it,” said Moyes.
“I think there [will be] a lot of ups and downs. It’s a close-run league this year. There will be a few shocks.”
January will prove crucial for the Manchester United boss, and the signings he makes if any may well determine where United go on to finish.
If the summer was something of a costly learning process, then January must see some significant additions added, particularly in that midfield area.
United have been linked with a host of talented players, which means inevitably there will be some departures, and more restricted opportunities for the club’s talented young players.
