Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Cardiff City brought a few Manchester United fans back down to earth inside the Football Transfer Tavern.
The 1-0 win over Arsenal prior to the international break had everyone talking about how United were back in the title race, but Sunday’s disjointed performance in South Wales has shown there is still work to be done.
David Moyes blew his chance to strengthen in the summer, and the likes of Tom Cleverley, Maraoune Fellaini, Nani, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia have all struggled to perform this season.
United have too many players not playing at their peak, and January is likely to see a shake up at Old Trafford.
The wide areas in particular are the main priority for Moyes.
The former Everton boss is trying to implement a 4-4-1-1 system, with a lot of emphasis on getting the ball wide and delivering crosses for the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie to thrive on.
But as previously mentioned, United’s wide men have been a real let down this season, with only 18-year-old wonderkid Adnan Januzaj emerging with any real credit so far.
Reports suggest Moyes is targeting a big name winger in January, and Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria has been heavily linked.
But with some reports suggesting the Argentine wants to stay and fight for his place at the Bernabeu, we have identified five alternatives for Moyes to consider.
