David Moyes may have begun his Manchester United career with a pre-season defeat, but he will know as well as anybody the real work starts against Swansea City in five weeks time.
Moyes has the unenviable task of taking over from the most successful British manager of all-time, and is well aware his every move will be scrutinised.
His selection of young players this season will no doubt be monitored closely. Sir Alex was the master at giving youth a chance, and built the famous treble winning side of 1999 predominantly from players from the Red Devils academy.
It seems Moyes doesn’t have quite the talent of Giggs, Scholes, Beckham and the Nevilles coming through the ranks at present, but nevertheless there are plenty of players with bright futures.
Here we have identifed five to keep an eye on during pre-season, with a view to them getting more first team action over the course of Moyes’ first campaign in charge.
