5 midfield combinations for Chelsea; which is the best?

Option Five - The winnerSo here in the Football Transfer Tavern, Chelsea fans are getting more and more excited about their prospects this season.

Most punters here in the tavern were gutted to see the transfer window close – but not Chelsea fans. They were thrilled to see title rivals Manchester United do so badly in the market and were thoroughly pleased with their purchases to boot, well aside from losing out on Wayne Rooney that is!

As our landlord notes, no amount of tequila – even the hard top shelf stuff will make United fans feel better, but Blues fans are not bothered in the slightest.

Instead, they are moving away from the pool table and are sitting in a booth trying to come up with a list of their best starting eleven – and can complete everything rather straightforwardly except the midfield. In fact, there are so many options for the club in this area that they are struggling to decide and have had to ask our landlord for help.

Finally we decide that Jose Mourinho’s favoured formation of 4-3-3 would be best, and of course this can be adapted to a 4-5-1 if needs be.

Given the lack of options up top for the Blues, there is also of course the already tried and tested 4-6-0, or as we are sure Mourinho would claim – another variation of the 4-5-1, that was unsuccessfully deployed at Old Trafford.

With that in mind, here are five combinations that Chelsea could use, ending with the top pick and the combo we think should be used week in, week out.
