In the Football Transfer Tavern, we have finally come to terms with the fact that the transfer window is closed – and the majority of us may have spent the last week lamenting just who our sides could have signed this summer (yes, Manchester United fans, we are looking at you).

However, our landlord has suggested a rather more productive way to spend our time – and noted that we should be looking at exactly who sides now have to work with.

Spurs fans may be lamenting the sale of Gareth Bale, but as our punters take advantage of the pie and mash on offer today here in the tavern, they are more than a little bit impressed with the players that are currently at the disposal of Andre Villas-Boas.

In the middle of the park, the Spurs manager now has an embarrassment of riches to work with, and losing Bale, and missing out on Willian does not seem like being that big an issue now.

In fact, when coming up with potential midfield combinations for Spurs, there were simply too many to contend with, and we have picked our five best – and then finally decided on the one that we think is the cream of the crop.

We are going to suggest to AVB (should he choose to listen of course) that a variation of three deep lying midfielders and two wide men on the flanks should be the Portuguese manager’s best choice.

There are simply too many top class talents at AVB's disposal to field only four in midfield – not to mention Roberto Soldado as the lone front man up top.

So, here are five midfield combinations for Spurs fans to drool over, culminating in the best one.
