Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling, Markovic Liverpool proved to be the busiest of all the Premier League clubs over the course of the transfer window bringing in nine new first team players.

Of those nine, Brendan Rodgers brought in three new midfielders in the forms of Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic.

With Lucas Leiva, Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho, Joe Allen, Jordan Henderson and captain Steven Gerrard still on the clubs books, the Liverpool boss has some decisions to make with regards as to who gets a starting place in his midfield.

During his time as Liverpool boss, Rodgers has shown he likes to tinker with his formations regularly.

Rodgers has deployed a 4-2-3-1 system, a 4-4-2 with wingers, a 4-4-2 diamond, a 4-3-3, and even a 3-4-1-2 at the start of last season.

With the Reds squad strengthened by players capable of playing in a number of midfield positions, the Northern Irishman has a luxury of midfield options to play with over the course of the season.
