Arsenal are set to return to Premier League action this weekend, looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat at Old Trafford almost a fortnight ago.
Arsene Wenger’s side sit just two points clear at the Premier League summit, after Robin van Persie’s first half header sent them towards a second league defeat of the season.
Wenger will hope his side can bounce back with a win against high flying Southampton tomorrow afternoon, as his side enter a tricky period of the season.
The next six weeks will determine exactly what Arsenal are capable of this season, and the feeling at the Emirates Stadium is that if Wenger can negotiate a tricky Christmas period with his side still in the hunt, some good business in January may well take Arsenal towards ending their trophy drought with one of the biggest prizes of the lot.
There is no hiding away from the fact the Gunners still need strengthening, particularly in the striking department.
Olivier Giroud has done an excellent job fighting the cause virtually alone this season, whilst the support from arguably the divisions strongest midfield has been superb.
But Wenger will have his sights set on some attacking reinforcements as priority, and perhaps a couple more new faces to strengthen the squad.
