Liverpool fans have come to dread transfer windows in recent years, with it usually consisting of them batting off rumours surrounding the future of Luis Suarez, and trying and failing to compete for the top signings with their Premier League rivals.

Their return to the Champions League was supposed to see this transfer window become one to remember, but with Suarez poised to complete a £75 million switch to Barcelona, it is looking like another one to forget.

It’s not all bad news for the Reds, having already completed the signings of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can.

And widespread reports suggest there is more to come – although Alexis Sanchez is not set to be one of them.

The Reds had identified the Chilean superstar as the man to replace Suarez at Anfield, and had hoped to conclude a cash plus player deal with the Catalan giants.

Here, we take a look at five of the most unbearable failures in the transfer market for Liverpool.
