Liverpool head into tomorrow’s lunchtime clash with Cardiff City knowing a win will give them the very real prospect of being top of the Premier League table at Christmas.
Arsenal have a tricky clash with Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night, where anything less than three points against Jose Mourinho’s men will see them sit second to Rodgers’ side on Christmas day – assuming they continue their rich vein of form at Anfield.
The Reds have won seven of their eight Premier League clashes at home this season, with Southampton the only team to come away from Merseyside with anything after a 1-0 win in September.
And the signs are there to suggest Liverpool are ready to improve their away record in the second half of the season, after last Sunday’s 5-0 battering of Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Rodgers labelled the performance the ‘most complete’ since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2012, but in truth there have been plenty of similar performances over the course of the season.
West Brom, Fulham, Norwich and West Ham have all left Anfield on the back of heavy defeats this season, further evidence to suggest Anfield is a fortress once more, and the Reds have a genuine chance of challenging for the top four this season.
