Manchester United fans go into Christmas for the first time in a long time without much to cheer.
David Moyes has endured a tough start to his Old Trafford career, which has seen him oversee eight wins, four draws and five defeats from the opening 17 games, and leaves the Champions occupying eighth spot in the league.
Consistency has been hard to find for United.
Just when you think Moyes has cracked it, then back-to-back home defeats lurk around the corner.
It has no doubt been a steep learning curve for the former Everton boss, who will have never experienced scrutiny the likes of which he has during the first four and a half months of this season.
Whilst his errors in the transfer market during the summer have undoubtedly proved costly, it has not all been bad news.
After a difficult start to the month, United head into the festive period on the back of three straight wins in all competitions, and with a favourable run of fixtures to come.
Moyes has also seen his team qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League, where they have earned one of the kindest possible draws being paired with Greek side Olympiakos.
And whilst there have been plenty of disappointing performances this season, a few players have stepped up and often carried the side whilst others have faltered.
Here we have completed the task of identifying the five players who you could argue have improved for Manchester United this season, despite their difficult run.
