It’s fair to say there has been a mixed reaction inside the Football Transfer Tavern, to the news that Tim Sherwood has been appointed head coach on an 18-month contract.
There was no doubting the former Spurs midfielder wanted the job – he went as far to joke that if it was up to him, he would be offered a 10-year-contract – but not all are convinced he is the right choice.
Sherwood has no previous managerial experience, an issue with some Tottenham fans who wanted a big name the likes of Fabio Capello or Guus Hiddink.
But Sherwood looks to have won the race, after overseeing Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Southampton at the weekend, a match in which the new Tottenham boss was credited with reintroducing Emmanuel Adebayor – a man who was exiled under Andre Villas-Boas.
Sherwood has needed to shake things up for Tottenham, following a series of underwhelming performances in the Premier League.
With over £100 million spent on new players in the summer, it has clearly been difficult for Tottenham to get to grips with all the changes.
Whilst plenty have underperformed, Sherwood will look to the few that it could be argued have improved upon last season’s performances to help him turn the tide.
Here, we have identified the five Tottenham players it could be argued have actually improved this season.
