With the season having ended officially after Saturday evening’s Champions League Final, all attentions have now turned to the World Cup and the imminent opening of the summer transfer window.
All Premier League clubs have announced the names of the players who have been officially been released following the end of their contracts, and Chelsea’s Frank Lampard is rather surprisingly one of the names on that list.
The 35-year-old is yet to be offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge, and whilst some reports suggest he may yet be offered a one year extension, the common feeling is that the England star has kicked his last ball for Chelsea.
Lampard is set to go into the summer’s World Cup as a free agent, although there will be no shortage of admirers desperate to secure the signature of Chelsea’s record goalscorer.
Whether Lampard will stay in the Premier League, or enjoy a lucrative contract elsewhere in Europe or further abroad remains to be seen.
Nothing is set to be decided until after the World Cup, with Lampard poised to play an important role for Roy Hodgson’s side, judging by the fact he has been handed his favoured number 8 shirt for this summer’s tournament in Brazil.
Here we have considered five realistic destinations for Lampard for next season.
