The signing we have all been waiting for looks set to be nearing completion, with reports suggesting Chelsea’s move for Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa is close to reaching it’s conclusion.
The Brazilian-born Spanish international striker made a name for himself as the deadliest forward in Europe last season, with his success in front of goal inspiring Atletico to a shock La Liga title and Champions League runners-up spot.
Chelsea have activated the forward’s £32 million release clause, and the medical has been completed.
Once the formalities have been completed, the attention will likely switch to which forwards could be on their way out of Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho was publicly critical of his frontline last season, and the futures of Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba are all up in the air somewhat.
Chelsea did have a forward on their books who was scoring consistently in the Premier League last season, as Romelu Lukaku fired 14 goals whilst on loan at Everton.
But if reports are to be believed, that fact has still not been enough to earn Lukaku a recall to Stamford Bridge, with the Blues reportedly looking to cash in on the young Belgian this summer following Costa’s arrival.
