Now Monday evening of course, our Manchester United fans are still in jovial mood after inflicting a 3-1 defeat on their arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

Totally convincing in their victory, Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool were so bad that one particular Reds fan has set up a petition fund to get the Northern Irishman sacked.

While this is making our Red Devils fans chuckle, they do know deep down that their squad is still in relative transition with the likes of Manchester City looking like the real deal in comparison.

That said, things do look as if they are coming together nicely, especially considering new £36 million signing Anthony Martial took no time at all to find the back of the net on his United debut.

Manchester United fans will be hoping there are many more goals from the Frenchman this term with Louis van Gaal's side still relatively short up front with Marouane Fellaini starting the game as an emergency forward.

Currently standing in third place with 10 points, most United fans would take this right now considering the squad hasn't been firing on all cylinders so far this season.

While it's still early days of course, we're taking this moment to list who our neutrals by the bar believe to be United's five most overrated players right now.

While he has enjoyed a better start to life at United this season than he endured in all of the last campaign, you still get the sense that Red Devils fans get a little carried away when Luke Shaw puts in a decent performance.

Seemingly eager to justify to everybody that he is and will eventually be worth the massive £27 million they shelled out on him from Southampton, Shaw has taken a lot longer than expected to become the established first choice left back for both club and country.

We know he is still young with plenty of time on his side but he has a long way to go if he wants to emulate the performances of Patrice Evra in his pomp years at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney

Rooney 2

Yes, we know Wayne Rooney just underlined his name in English football folklore having broken Sir Bobby Charlton's record to become the Three Lions' leading goalscorer of all-time but in the Premier League so far this term, Rooney's performances have been at best average and at worst, terrible.

In United's narrow victory away at Aston Villa earlier this term, Rooney was simply awful, unable to keep possession of the ball while fluffing his lines in front of goal.

With plenty of time left to turn it around of course, this season was always going to be a big one for Rooney with Louis van Gaal entrusting him to spearhead the Red Devils' attack as a number nine but after four games, the likes of Ian Wright questioned whether the England international was even suited to this role any more.

When you consider Rooney struck just 12 Premier League goals last term compared to 17 the season before and 12 the season before that, although he weighs in with his fair share of goals, he is still not close to the eventual Golden Boot winner who usually registers 20 goals plus.

Without this calibre of striker in United's squad, it will be hard for them to win the Premier League title this term.

Michael Carrick

Carrick

We often hear pundits and commentators praise the work of Michael Carrick in the United midfield with his passing ability and composure which are of course valid points to make when talking about the Geordie but don't you feel it is a bit over the top at times?

Now 34-years-old, United fans will often tell you that Carrick is getting better with age but in truth, the fact still remains that the West Ham United academy graduate has only won 33 senior England caps since making his debut way back in 2001.

While Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard of course have something to do with Carrick not winning as many caps as he might have, there has also been times where Carrick has been overlooked entirely and this can't have always come down to Carrick being unlucky.

Marcos Rojo

Rojo

When Marcos Rojo put together a small string of convincing performances last season, Manchester United fans typically got a little too overexcited with some in the bar claiming that they'd found their new Gabriel Heinze.

But in truth, Rojo is still something of an unfamiliar figure with United fans simply because he has been injured for a large part of his Red Devils career thus far.

Seemingly, Rojo manages to get himself fit whenever Argentina are playing competitive football but when it comes to United, he is often missing allowing the likes of Daley Blind to try their hand at centre back instead.

For Rojo to truly be rated highly, he needs far more time and a sustained spell back in Louis van Gaal's starting eleven before fans cast their ultimate judgement again.

Memphis Depay

Memphis 1

While it's still early days for Memphis Depay at Old Trafford of course, our neutrals by the bar didn't hear the end of United fans mentioning the Dutchman throughout the summer with some even going as far to claim they'd found the new Cristiano Ronaldo!

But in the Champions League qualifier against Club Brugge aside, Memphis has often found his impact limited with the Dutchman quite evidently still getting used to English football.

The harsh reality for Memphis however is that he arrived at the club from PSV Eindhoven for a huge £31 million fee and with this price, not to mention adorning United's legendary number 7 shirt, there comes a certain level of expectation.

We think that United fans should be expecting more of Memphis right now considering Angel Di Maria flattered to deceive before him but luckily enough for the Dutchman, he has time on his side both in terms of his age and the amount of games to go this season.

Perhaps he'll turn it on against the familiar faces of his former employers PSV in the Champions League this week.
