Despite the stunning deadline day capture of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £42.5 million, the general feeling around the Emirates Stadium is that the Gunners are still a top class striker short of a realistic title challenge.
Arsene Wenger would argue otherwise, considering Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud have close to 40 goals between them in all competitions since signing for the Gunners just over a year again.
It has been Giroud who has shone in particular, particularly this season – with the Frenchman having struck in every Premier League fixture so far.
Arsene Wenger has praised the former Montpellier man for stepping up to the plate this season, despite a summer of speculation which saw the likes of Wayne Rooney, Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez linked with a summer switch to the Emirates which would have no doubt seen Giroud take his place on the bench.
That is now an unthinkable possibility for the Gunners, with Giroud’s goals – one of which was a North London derby winner – taking them up to second place in the table, and on the back of six straight wins in all competitions.
The fear for Arsenal now is that they left themselves short in the striker department on deadline day, should injuries occur.
Therefore, we have identified 5 potential options for the Gunners to pursue should their man of the moment Giroud suffer an injury.
