It is Arsenal’s turn to come under the microscope for ‘panic signings’ in the Football Transfer Tavern, and it is fair to say Arsene Wenger has made a fair few in recent seasons.
The Gunners are finally back on the map in the transfer market, with the club appearing to be finally ready to invest the millions they have been saving for so long in new playing talent.
The stunning £42.5 million capture of Mesut Ozil on deadline day proved as much, and the word is that Wenger will splash the cash once more in January.
But this has been anything but the case over the past few seasons, with Arsenal supporters growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of incomings and the worrying number of outgoings.
Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song, Gael Clichy, Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie have all been sold in the last few years, with Wenger often failing to bring in adequate replacements, and frustratingly leaving it until the last minutes to do business.
Things appear to be improving, with the Gunners sitting top of the Premier League table and a threat in the transfer market once again, meaning supporters will hope the days of ‘panic signings’ are well and truly over.
Here we countdown the top five down the years.
