As one of our punters quips, Chelsea are a club we talk about more than most here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
Quite if it is their success, their money or their manager that makes us so eager to discuss the Blues we could not tell you, but one thing is for sure, they always provide some good debates.
As we can now finally focus on the domestic action once again after the tedious international break, one of our punters brings Robert Lewandowski into the conversation. The forward may have been slightly flat against England last night, but there is no denying he is a top draw player, and one that Jose Mourinho will have his eye on come January.
This leads one of our punters to note that Chelsea have a history of panic buying when it comes to forwards – especially in the winter transfer window – and most of them have turned out to be huge flops. From the £50 million man to ones who could never make the step up to the big time, Chelsea have seen it all.
With the amount of money the club have, it does not matter quite as much to them if they sign a player who turns out to be a total flop – whereas to other clubs it can be a huge disaster.
Chelsea have purchased some deadwood down the years – Juan Sebastian Veron to name but one! With that in mind, our punters have put down the dinner menus and come over to the pool table, where we are compiling a list of five Chelsea panic buys.
