Most people in football, let alone the ones in the Football Transfer Tavern, would agree that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is one of the very best negotiators around.
Whilst the likes of Ed Woodward stalled this summer, Levy thrived. Negotiating a mega money deal for Gareth Bale was only a sub plot as he brought in a host of top names to the club and did not pay over the odds for anyone, barring Roberto Soldado arguably.
In an age where a club’s board is as important as the manager, and in certain cases, has far, far more power, Spurs are luckier than most.
That is why when our landlord asked the question of if the club had been guilty of panic buying, we had to think a little further back than the last couple of seasons.
Of course, as our punters note, not all panic buys are bad, and Spurs have even bought in a couple of top players. There are, as you would imagine, some awful ones to go along with that – but you cannot have everything!
With that in mind, our punters decided to abandon their game of pool while coming over to the bar, taking a seat and joining in the task of coming up with five panic buys made by Tottenham Hotspur in the past.
