5 players that let Arsenal down in 2012/13

vermaelen.jpgIt’s been less than a month since Arsenal secured Champions League qualification on the final day of the Premier League season, and now those so-called  ‘over enthusiastic’ celebrations have died down, it is time to reflect on another campaign and look ahead to the new season.

The 2012/13 season Premier League season as a whole was always going to be something of a disappointment considering it had to follow arguably the greatest campaign in living memory the previous year, and for Arsenal this was no exception.

Arsene Wenger had to endure arguably the toughest season of his long Arsenal career, with constant questions being thrown his way regarding his future, and it became apparent as soon as February that the club were going to have to suffer an eighth consecutive season without a trophy – while the Champions League places also looked a long way off at that point.

Although the Gunners offered their supporters some sort of redemption, it will be difficult for the fans to forget the Champions League last-16 first leg humbling from Bayern Munich, the abject league display at Old Trafford, and the humiliating cup defeats to Blackburn Rovers and Bradford City.

Too many big players went missing on too many occasions for Arsenal last season. Here we countdown the five that let the side down in 2012/13.
