The 2012/13 season ultimatley proved to be one of disappointment for Tottenham, despite all the promise shown throughout the season by Andre Villas-Boas’ side.
Final day heartache was the story once more, with North London rivals Arsenal pipping them to the post again and securing Champions League football, despite Spurs being the heavy favourites for the entire second half of the campaign.
There wasn’t a late collapse as such, but crucial defeats at crucial times are what proved costly – the late defeat to Liverpool at Anfield and the surprise home defeat to Fulham particularly stand out.
It hardly needs mentioning that Gareth Bale was the main man throughout the entire campaign, with the impact of the Welshman proving so great that many concluded Tottenham were something of a one man team.
All that aside, there are no doubt some players that could have contributed far more to the cause, and had they stepped up their game throughout the season, it would be the white half of North London plying their trade amongst Europe’s elite rather than the red half.
