Arsenal supporters are pretty happy inside the Football Transfer Tavern this evening, with widespread reports suggesting the club are set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez.
Reports suggest a fee is close to being agreed with the Catalan giants, with the Chilean having indicated he is keen on a switch to North London.
Whilst Liverpool had hoped to include the World Cup star as a part of the deal that would see Luis Suarez move in the opposite direction, Sanchez is said to be drawn by the prospect of playing his football in England’s capital city.
The news will come as a welcome relief to Arsenal supporters, who have been growing restless at the lack of transfer activity thus far.
Liverpool have added three new additions themselves, whilst Manchester United have spent £60 million on the signings of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, whilst Chelsea have strengthened with the signings of Diego Costa and former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.
This was the summer Arsenal supporters were promised big money additions to push the club forward, and as of yet Wenger is yet to dip into his ‘war chest’.
Gunners fans are hoping the signing of Sanchez will be confirmed as quickly as possible and that more are set to follow the ex-Udinese forward to North London shortly.
