Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho may have claimed that his spending for the season was done, but we here in the Football Transfer Tavern have to disagree. The Blues are in need of a couple of players – most of all a forward.
As one of our punters notes, the fact that all of Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o have failed to light up the league has become a big issue for Mourinho. Add to this the lack of a recall clause for Everton loanee Romelu Lukaku and there is only one option left to the Chelsea manager. Buy another forward.
Mourinho would also ideally like to bring in another defensive midfielder and potentially a central defender and given his lack of trust in David Luiz, that is not really a shock. Whilst he pours the final pint of his shift, our landlord notes that one thing Chelsea do not need is another number ten – they have far too many small, playmaker types already!
The club will be hoping to challenge not just for the title and the other two domestic cups, but also the Champions League to boot. After winning the competition back in 2012 and following that up with a Europa League triumph last season, Chelsea fans would like to see the Blues triumph on the home front once more and reign supreme in the Premier League, whilst going as far as they can in the cup competitions of course.
To do that, they will need a couple of new players. Yes, their squad is good, but it could be better. With that in mind, we have taken a look at five players Chelsea could well see follow latest signing Samuel Eto’o to the club.
