With the Uruguayan seemingly looking to engineer a move away from Anfield, there will be plenty of others at the club knowing they will have to step up their game, with the number 7 often carrying the Reds single handedly throughout the last campaign.
It was very much a transitional season at Anfield, with a host of summer signings bedding in, and the introduction of two big name recruits in January – all overseen by a new manager.
The second half of the campaign will no doubt leave supporters feeling encouraged, but they will know as well as their manager that plenty of work and improvement needs to happen if they are to challenge for the top four next season.
