Tottenham fans were able to say a final goodbye to striker Jermain Defoe after this weekend’s victory over Everton in what will be his last appearance at White Hart Lane.
The former England international is set to move to Canadian MLS side Toronto FC at the start of March after signing a massive £90,000-a-week contract.
He will link up with former Spurs defender and now Toronto manager Ryan Nelsen as he ends his current four-year spell at Tottenham after completing a £6million deal.
Defoe will depart White Hart Lane as the club’s fifth highest goal-scorer in history after playing in more than 250 games for the Lilywhites.
Tottenham spent £100million during the summer under former boss Andre Villas-Boas, but the club are expected to spend significantly again with Roberto Soldado so-far flopping during his short period at White Hart Lane.
Defoe’s departure certainly leaves a space for Tim Sherwood to fill in the summer, with just Soldado, Emmanuel Adebayor and youngster Harry Kane to call upon.
